Video Intervention Therapy (VIT)

George Downing, Ph.D.
institute director

Video Intervention Therapy (VIT) is an evidence-based approach to work with relationships and interaction.  A short video is filmed of, for example, a parent and child, or a couple, or two siblings, or a child with a peer.  The patient, or patients, looks at the video with the therapist.  What is seen is jointly reflected upon.

A variant of cognitive behavioral therapy, VIT is a module methodology.  It is designed to be inserted within a wider treatment program.  VIT is widely used in mental health institutions in the U.S. and Europe.
